NetBSD today (Thu Sep 17 21:53:59 PDT 2009) bumped the native (versus pkgsrc) XOrg server version from 1.4.2 to 1.6.3. After updating my /usr/src and /usr/xsrc (completely painless, as usual), I started the rebuild process. This is where things started to go sideways. As a result of recent attacks on the SHA-1 hash function specified in FIPS 180-2 , Secure Hash Standard, NIST (National Institue of Standards and Technology) is initiating an effort to develop one or more additional hash algorithms through a public competition, similar to the development process for the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).
